Parkersburg, WV – Come celebrate the unique history and heritage of Wood County, W.Va., during the annual Reflections of the Past: A History & Heritage Festival Oct. 11-14.
Experience the romance and intrigue of Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park’s Mansion by Candlelight event; the fascinating birth of the nation’s oil and gas industry at the Oil & Gas Museum; the architectural splendor of Julia-Ann Square Historic District (West Virginia’s largest); and Henderson Hall Plantation, a pre-Civil War 17-room mansion. Encounter the drama of the Civil War and the tumultuous events that led to the creation of the state of West Virginia and much more!
“Wood County has so much to be proud of!” said Deborah Shaffer, Reflections of the Past organizer. “Our history is significant and this is the perfect time to celebrate and enjoy that heritage. We have a number of wonderful attractions and special events lined up for the entire family to enjoy together.”
Shaffer indicated more than 20 different events are planned during the four-day event. Highlights include an 1860 Cincinnati Red Sox exhibition baseball game, antique car parade and show, living history tours of Riverview Cemetery, guided tours of historic churches, model train exhibits, and haunted tours.
“We encourage the public to come out and support this event,” said Mark Lewis, Greater Parkersburg CVB president. “We hope this will become a beloved and long-lasting event, just like many of our other major fairs and festivals. The committee has worked diligently over the past year to develop something truly unique to Wood County.”
